The New Mastersounds are a four-piece band based in Leeds, England, whose modern take on vintage soul-jazz, funk and rock draws influences from Jimmies McGriff, Smith, and Hendrix, as well as their most closely-associated mentors, The Meters. Try to imagine Grant Green and Lou Donaldson having a fight in a Hammond Organ shop while James Brown holds the coats, and you have some idea of what to expect from this band.

in Washington, D.C. where the Reggae music scene has become defined by the great Bad Brains, SOJA has risen to the forefront. picking up right where the Brains left off – creating their own blend of conscious roots music entwined with the traditional rhythms of reggae, which "comes across with passion and depth."
That said, SOJA is not that easy to define. Although they are rooted in reggae, they are not limited to it; their fan-base reflects this with a very diverse population. The music includes and embraces all walks of life - it has no prejudice – it is for everyone. The band grew up listening to reggae, hip-hop, and rock. In their sound, reggae became the predominate influence because it is dedicated to a real message and promotes revolution.

Hailing from Duluth, Minnesota, Trampled by Turtles (TBT) is an original, non-traditional bluegrass band whose raucous live performances put a unique spin on the genre, tweaking the tradition with their own mix of punk, alt-country, rock and pop. “We enjoy traditional bluegrass but we all grew up immersed in rock ‘n roll and I think our band reflects those qualities,” lead vocalist and guitarist Dave Simonett says.

Just read these reviews I had to put them all on here.

When That 1 Guy is in town, his grooves are so bombastic they rattle china cabinets and dissolve kidney stones well into the next zip code. Judah Gold, Relix Magazine

Like a one-man band plucked from the pages of Dr. Seuss, That 1 Guy delivers earthshaking future funk from the magic pipe to accompany his madcap lyrics about turbo snails, meat storms, and weasel pot pies." J.G., Bass Player Magazine

Necessity is the mother of invention. But in the case of Mike Silverman's slamming, futuristic funk act, That 1 Guy, the normal rules of biology just don't apply. Andrew Gilbert, Billboard/Express

It's Home Depot meets Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Isamu Jordan, The Spokesman

That 1 Guy has more funk in his two or three fingers than most people have in their entire refrigerator. Nils Frykdahl, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum

That 1 Guy is one of the most prolific and insanely genius musicians we've met in quite some time. With a rap sheet a mile long, and a reputation for turning out live shows where ever he plays, this virtuoso is a class act all the way. M.S., California Best Bet

This must be how people felt the first time they saw Ziggy Stardust. That 1 Guy is truly, honestly unique, and simply mesmerizing. Sarah Henning, Ripsaw

That 1 Guy is a musical guerrilla by every definition and no traditional Rock critic yardstick can be applied to what he's doing. BB, Cincinatti Cittybeat theater

WOW... I need these guys writing for us !

Future Rock is electronic sensory overload. The trio has steadily been touring the US, electrifying audiences and developing a dedicated following during their journey. Their legendary late night performances at festivals and after-parties have quickly confirmed their status at the top of the live electronic scene. Coupled with an explosive light show, FR certifies an unparalleled multi-sense experience. The Chicago-based trio exhibits an uncommon grasp of minimalist, yet visceral, rock. Skillfully manipulating live loops, synthesizers, filters and an electronic drum kit, the trio succeeds in creating a larger-than-life sound that sends crowds into frenzies. .

Based in the entertainment-super-hub of the world, Underground Orchestra is a Los Angeles band capable of captivating crowds from coast to coast. In 2006 they were crowned with two of the most prestigious LA music awards for Best Single and Best Jam Band and have truly taken the California music scene by storm. Having amazed audiences locally from the start, they have become a must see among musical acts on the West Coast.

“Astounding International Eclecticism!”

The Ragbirds began in 2005 with songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Erin Zindle and drummer Randall Moore. The couple had a desire to create fresh, original music weaving their love of world sounds into the energetic, catchy folk-rock songs that Erin had written. The band has come to call this unique blend of styles “infectious global groove”. In addition to Erin & Randall the band consists of guitarist/vocalist T.J. Zindle (Erin’s brother), bassist Dan Hildebrandt, and percussionist Tim Dziekan..

.

and down right some of the nicest people you'll meet ! Nice to have the Fem. energy represented, its pure joy from these kids

If you could only hear Heatbox but not see him you wouldn't know what the hell was going on. It sometimes sounds like there is an entire band playing a song, but no it is just one man and he isn't even playing any instruments. Even when you CAN see Heatbox most people don't really understand how the show is happening. That's OK because Heatbox sings from the heart and after you are drawn in by the strangeness, you will stick around for the music.

Like a hungry beast, Fat Maw Rooney has been devouring audiences for the past six years with their voracious live shows and powerful albums. Their shows are marked by intense energy, tight harmonies, and spontaneous creativity, which never fails to excite. While live energy is their trademark, songwriting is what keeps Fat Maw Rooney fans coming back for more. Effectively combining elements of blues, rock, and funk, the band continues to forge their own ‘northern rock’ sound.

Art is a vehicle for passion, designed to connect the creator and the audience together, for even a short moment, and display a unified vision of understanding. Music is not notes on a page or sound files in a recording studio. Good music is an uncontrollable bubbling up of energy, emotion and expression, finding it's way into the ears and leaving the mind thinking - great music has both questions and answers.

Pert' Near Sandstone is a hard-driving stringband from Minneapolis and St. Paul. Gathered round an old-timey microphone, the boys play well-crafted original stringband material, as well as being purveyors of many songs from the old-time traditions. They are a riot to see live--this ain't no shirt and tie bluegrass music--this is high-octane, gritty, stringband music that's sure to get you outta your seat and keep you dancing all night

"Whether it be an up-tempo funk or a laid-back groove, we want to feel good playing it, and at the same time bring something new to the listener's ear," says drummer and vocalist Reed Grimm. With the added kick of a three piece horn section and a cross-pollination of musical styles, the Shoeless Revolution delivers an amazingly upbeat and entertaining performance that draws a crowd at every show, whether it includes returning fans, or newcomers who are drawn in by the energy on stage. Be sure to keep your eye out for the group without any footwear and their brand of Funk/Reggae/Rock fusion that can start and keep a body groovin' the whole night long.

Absolute Grüv is a Minnesota based band committed to reinventing classic R&B and Blues sounds with a modern twist. The 4 piece combo brings keys, guitar, bass and drums to the table. When combined their Jam Band style and the Grüv's roots in jazz and blues make the bands growing repertoire of originals truly unique.

there was an old man named Larry and he died. Everything in his home was left untouched for over a year. He had no relatives to inherit his belongings so his assets were frozen by the bank. We visited his house by way of a secret passage thru a dark and dusty attic. Everything in his home was just the way he left it, shoes by the bed, burned down cigarettes resting on the ashtray, and a full and extensive liquor cabinet, where he pured his last drink. We borrowed a few things, some clothes which Mark likes to wear to our shows, Cab Calloway and Louis Armstrong records for Joe’s listening pleasure, a suitcase that we keep our CDs and T-shirts in to sell, and an excellent pair of Loafers. Oh yes, did we mention the suitcase we took was full of all the booze from Larry’s liquor cabinet? We took the funky drank home, had a weekend worth of partying, and in the end started a band: Dead Larry. In Death, Larry inspired us, and through us his name lives on. So came the name 'Dead Larry' and it just stuck. How’s that for a story? Rock on!

The band is composed of singer/songwriter Jon Wayne, bassist Chuckie "PC" Torgerson and drummer Chris "Ape Shit" Hicks. Based out of Minneapolis, the band pulls from Reggae, Dub, and Ska roots as they spread their message of peace and recovery throughout the Midwest. Jon Wayne and the Pain are an amalgamation of their influences, like anyone in their generation. Their Reggae/Rock/Skateboarder sound is directly influenced by innovators like Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, and Pepper.

This band is the product of many inspired nights spent in a clutterd uptown apartment, enjoying the company of acoustic instruments and brown liquor. The band name comes from an old Peter Rowan story that makes a passing reference to Jerry Garcia's front porch.

"And when we first met Jerry, David said, you know Garcia lives just up the hill. I said Jerry Garica? He says yeah, said he likes to play banjo, I said you're kidding. We went up there, we walked up there, and theres a little sign above his door that says 'Sans Souci', which I think in French means 'no problem'." -Peter Rowan

Useful Jenkins was created from friends jamming around campfires. Pat and Lucas had been playing guitar together off and on since 2004, never playing shows, just some open mics, and campfires. In 2006, Josh came along and brought his drum to some campfires. It wasn't long before he was doing open mics with us and we had written our first few songs. Meanwhile, in the fall of 2006, Travis snuck in through the backdoor and surprised the hell out of all of us. We had stumbled upon a fairly unique sound, and wanted to keep it rolling, so we asked our good friend Ryan to play some bass for us. The 5 of us have been Useful now for just under a year, and if you still have no idea what Useful Jenkins is, you'll have to ask us at a show. :)

I think the least we can do is to create something new for people."

Born on the prairies of western Minnesota, Matt Ray is a self-taught musician who was surrounded by music growing up. Both Matt's mother and father were active musicians, and Matt was often found sleeping in guitar cases or behind drum sets as a young child.

Matt's style stems from a variety of sources, that are as diverse as Matt's musical background. Blues, folk, jug band, and rock are just a few of the styles you can expect to hear when you see Matt perform.

Not only is his style unique and entertaining, but Matt's performances are often filled with storytelling and musical history.

Our biggest influence is creativity and those listed, who we feel keep it real and constantly hold the bar high musicly.

THE BEAUTIFUL GIRLS, PETER TOSH, TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS, UB40, SUBLIME, AL GREEN, THIRD WORLD, BEN HARPER AND THE INNOCENT CRIMINALS, SNOOP DOGG, SLIGHTLY STOOPID, BETHOVEN, YO MAMA, PEPPER, ANTHONY B, ANIMAL CHIN, TOO SHORT, RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS......................... We could go on and on, I mean come on!

Trance / House / Electronica !

The Histronic is a three-piece electronic band (Drums, Bass, Keys), specializing in an intoxicating blend of live dance music that incorporates many genres (progressive trance, funk, house, hip hop beats, Latin, rock, and funk). All three members come from diverse musical backgrounds, but the Histronic calls upon the band to step outside the box, and into a genre in which a band creates the intricate sounds of a DJ.

The Lunar Funk Theory started as a three piece back in the day(around 2002)and through many different members and styles has morphed into the most amazing band the world has ever seen,we are so huge that the world no longer has a stage that can hold us and we have comenced building a stage out of the moon, for tickets to the moon concert please contact us through a dream or mental telepathy and we will get back to you as soon as we wake up!

Start out with some of Leif's songs, and plenty of performances at the Steak Knife and the Downtime with Bobby and Ben. Add some occasional cello and a rehearsal or two, and press "liquefy" on the blender.

THE NORTH COUNTRY BANDITS are a six piece band comprised of members from DOUG OTTO AND THE GETAWAYS, THE FEELIN' BAND, STONE SOUP, THE HIGH 48's, and THE JASON DIXON LINE.

Our musical influences are all over the board ranging from Blues and Bluegrass to New Orleans Funk and Old School Country.

Boot Posse is a party band, a mixture of reggae stutters, with Red Hot Chilli Peppers-grade funk. The Chilli Peppers influence is a crucial ingredient, best embodied in vocals that sound like eerie replicas of Anthony Kiedis. "Placement" stands as the zenith of comparrison, in which the Kiedis-like raps burst the dam. On the other side of it's sonic landscape lie staccato guitar lines, heralding reggae bounce and reggae wavy lyrics. The big word to describe this album is CHILL. Moon Boot Posse goes to great lenghts to bring this uncomplicated chill, and it's mission has been accomplished!" .

Head writer for the group Marc Gartman (Little Gray House) maintains his songwriting prowess with another batch of tunes that tell less and less of broken hearts and more adventures of the world. ‘Maybelle’ imparts the (fictional?) tale of a young girl narrowly avoiding tragedy on the titanic in the early 1900’s. Reaching even further back ’13,000 Railroad Men’ conveys the plight of Chinese immigrant workers in the late 1800’s. Where does this stuff come from? Not even Gartman knows. own.

Dub is a form of music, evolved from reggae that involves revisions of existing songs.[1] The dub sound consists predominantly of instrumental remixes of existing recordings and is achieved by significantly manipulating and reshaping the recordings, usually by removing the vocals from an existing music piece, emphasizing the drum and bass frequencies or 'riddim', adding extensive echo and reverb effects, panoramic LR delay, and dubbing occasional snippets of lyrics or instruments from the original version.

It is widely accepted that Jamaican producers Osbourne "King Tubby" Ruddock, and Lee "Scratch" Perry pioneered the style in the 1960s and early 1970s

"Tunes from the Great American Songbook" - High Strung String Band embodies the traditional sense of bluegrass by envoking the likes of Ralph Stanley, The Carter Family, and Doc Watson, while keeping true to their West Bank Minneapolis roots by flavoring their sets with songs by the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, and Hank Williams. Couple this with their harmonious originals, and you’ll find that High Strung String Band is "Minnesotagrass" at it’s finest.
